CONTENTSAPRIL 2015 10 Codes Change, ICC Training & Education Helps Keep You Up to Date The Code Council’s Training & Education Department (T & E) makes it as easy as possible to stay current on the most up-to-date information on codes, standards and other topics of building safety. 12 “Tomorrow’s Training Model” Plan Execution Continues The goal of this five-part strategy is to advance the ICC T&E Department’s ability to best serve the needs of the building safety and construction community. 15 Flexible Training Options: Another Training and Education Enhancement ICC’s T&E Department instituted flexible training options more than a year ago, allowing sponsors to select the training topic and seminar materials that best suit their group’s needs and budget. 16 ICC’s 2015 Online Study Exams Debut New Format New for 2015, online study exams will be easier to use and help produce even better outcomes by offering participants more ways to practice before taking simulated online practice tests. 17 Online Training Partnerships ICC has established partnerships with global publishing and e-learning corporations Cengage Learning, Red Vector and BMI. 19 ICC Webinars To support recent changes to the Code Council’s certification renewal program, Training and Education has added webinars that can be used toward the minimum percentage of CEUs required to renew ICC certifications. 21 Training Institutes ICC Training Institutes provide comprehensive training experiences and allow participants to earn CEUs from the International Code Council, the source of the building codes. 23 Building/Fire Leadership “Working Together to Achieve Public Safety” ICC Certification and Testing (C&T) has completely reworked the exam modules needed for both the Certified Building Official (CBO) and Certified Fire Marshal (CFM) designations 25 Young MCPs By Nick Reiher You don’t have to be at the height of your career to become a Master Code Professional. Just ask Andre Jaen, who achieved MCP at the age of 24, and Chance Price who earned MCP at the age of 27. 29 HSTTP Continues to Expand its Reach By Jim Ellwood Word is spreading throughout the code and construction industry that ICC’s High School Technical Training Program is educating a workforce to replenish the current code officials and leaders of the industry. 33 ICC’s HUD Block Grant Funding for Code Enforcement—Find Out How to Apply ICC worked on behalf of its Members to draft the Community Building Code Administration Grant Act of 2012. ICC provides technical assistance and advice to Members on how to develop programs for CDBG funding consideration. 35 Evolving the Code Official By Stephen D.
