We also expanded our certification reinstatement program to help those who couldn’t reinstate before—promoting greater job mobility at a time when we need to keep our professionals in the mix so we can grow the profession. By the end of May, our Chapters and jurisdictions sent in well over 400 proclamations, resolutions and letters from their local governments commemorating our Annual Building Safety Month, which carried the theme: “Building Codes: Driving Growth through Innovation, Resilience and Safety.” Among those proclamations was one from President Obama, who once again took time to recognize our crucial work by proclaiming May as National Building Safety Month. We must continue to develop and improve ways to get out the word about our mission; develop and maintain strategic relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, policy advocates, our industry partners, as well as government bodies on the national, state and local levels. While I have enjoyed meeting so many valued Code Council Members, it often takes away from time with my family. Thank you to all the Members who greeted me so warmly on those trips, and to my friends and mentors in the Code Administrators Association of Kentucky. I could not have accomplished any of this during my career without your continued support. Dwayne, as you take the gavel as Code Council Board President for 2017, remember during your travels: God gave you two ears and only one mouth for a reason. Networking is such a great time to pick up new ideas from your peers. And new friends as well. Again, I thank you all for your trust in me and your help in making my year as Board President successful and fulfilling. It’s been my humble honor to serve you. Thank you and good luck. Humbly Submitted, MESSAGE from the PRESIDENT con’t “We must continue to develop and improve ways to get out the word about our mission; develop and maintain strategic relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, policy advocates, our industry partners, as well as government bodies on the national, state and local levels.” OCTOBER 2016 | 05
